Psalm 119 – Ayin

One of my favorite one-liners from Shakespeare deals with the double edged sword of justice.

“…use every man after his desert, and who should ‘scape whipping?” – Hamlet

Or said another way, “Treat everyone as they deserve to be treated, and who would escape harsh punishment?”

We are all sinners and as a result the only just penalty for sin is death.  So careful what you wish for if you are demanding justice.

That said, God does not give us what we deserve, but rather what we don’t deserve.  His lovingkindness that is an outpouring of his heart for his people.

Deal with Your servant according to Your lovingkindness And teach me Your statutes. – Pslam 119:124

One of the ways He shows us His love is by revealing Himself to us through the Word of God.  We become closer connected to Him and develop a loving two-way relationship with Him.  The Bible is not some stuffy book of out-dated stories and rules.  It is God’s instruction manual for life and his love letters to us.

It is not what we deserve, …it is so much more.
