Psalm 119 – Nun

Hide it under a bushel? No! I’m gonna let it shine!

Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path. – Psalm 119:105

This is one of the best known and most beloved verses in all of Psalms and perhaps all of scripture.  It appears in countless songs and serves as a comforting reminder of God’s provision and guidance.

It has been pointed out to me a few times that the Lord provides us light for our feet and the path right in front of us.  He does not, however, give us vision much beyond that, allowing us to stay in the dark about the events that are over the next hill or around the upcoming corner.

This forces us to live in the moment and rely upon God’s provision. He gives us all that we need and won’t give us more than we can handle.

It is worth noting as well that we have to hold the lamp in our hand and shine it on the path in front of us.  Remember that the lamp is God’s Word.  If we don’t have that in our hand (reading it often), then it isn’t of any use to us.  The path becomes dark and our feet stumble upon what we can’t see.

The lamp calls others to you as well.  Others may be stumbling out in the darkness not even knowing that there’s a better way.  Yet they will be drawn to the light and comforted by it.  If the Lord be willing, they will be inspired to find a lamp of their own and start their own journey.

Hide it under a bushel? No! I’m gonna let it shine!
