Forever, O LORD, Your word is settled in heaven. Your faithfulness continues throughout all generations ; You established the earth, and it stands. – Pslam 119:89-90
Forgive my extreme understatement, but forever is a long time. It is a larger concept then we can even grasp in our finite, human bodies. There was no “before” God. There is no “after” God. He is and was and ever will be God.
There may be interesting intellectual debate about how old the Earth is and how the end times might play themselves out but there’s no ambiguity about God himself.
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. – John 1:1
It is easy to get distracted or discouraged by day to day events. We get caught up in our own little worlds and stress ourselves out. We covet more than we’re given and kick up a fuss Veruca Salt style when we don’t get what we want. We sin and repent and sin again. In short, we miss the forest because of all the trees that we keep blindly running into.
Every once in a while, it helps to take a hot air balloon above the tree-line and look down upon our lives from God’s perspective. He made the Earth and it stands. He made us and we are his delight, even when we don’t deserve to be. God has put us where he wants us and we cannot wrestle our way out of his loving grip.
Thank you God for being forever God.
