The Bible is a map. The Holy Spirit is our guide. Righteousness is a path in the woods.
A foolish believer tells himself that he doesn’t need the map or the guide. A fool sees shiny objects to his left or right and goes chasing after them, leaving the path behind. He may stumble upon the path by chance or by forced providence, but chances are he’ll wander off again. Eventually, he’ll get to his destination because God never loses his sheep, no matter how foolish they are. But they will have fewer cuts, scrapes, bruises, and broken bones if they stick to the straight and narrow path set before them.
Give me understanding, that I may observe Your law And keep it with all my heart. Make me walk in the path of Your commandments, For I delight in it. – Psalm 119:34-35
We’ve had the map all along, we just have to read it. We’ve had the guide since rebirth, we just have to pay Him heed. Not only does it keep us from suffering but it brings us a delight that is unmatched by all the shiny objects in the world.
Lord help me to be less of a fool and more like you.
