Psalm 119 – Daleth

One of the wonderful things about the Bible is that it is deep as the oceans and as broad as the universe, yet it is accessible to everyone.  The Lord’s ways and words are beyond our human comprehension, yet he allows us to understand exactly what we need to understand.

Make me understand the way of Your precepts, So I will meditate on Your wonders.

To the non-believer, much of what is preached from the pulpit seems foolish or out-dated.  To the new believer, baptized with the Holy Spirit, the Word comes alive and mysteries are revealed.  The glory of the Gospel shines like a sunrise.  Stories from Genesis that we’ve known all our lives explode with new significance and imagery.  Precepts and principles that once seemed contrived become comforting guideposts along the path of our walk with God.

Little of this can be attributed to our own IQ’s or education levels.  The Holy Spirit unlocks the truth of His Word and enriches us with understanding and wisdom.  With such a treasure at our finger tips, it is folly to neglect it.  All too often we sit on our couch and complain about thirst with a water bottle (the Bible) sitting on our coffee table.

So yes Lord, make me understand the way of Your precepts, so I will meditate on Your wonders.
