Workin’ For The Lord

Proverbs 16:3

Commit your works to the LORD And your plans will be established.

Also see Psalm 37:4-5

Delight yourself in the LORD ; And He will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD, Trust also in Him, and He will do it.

God promises us that if we commit to him, he will bless us in our works and desires.  I’ve stated this before but it bears repeating.  This does not mean “name it and claim it.”   I don’t get a million dollars by asking for it and players don’t win basketball games because they “had enough faith.”

Notice what comes before the promise, a requirement.  Commit your works to the Lord.  Delight yourself in the Lord.  In other words, get to know God, understand what HIS desires are, then commit yourself to making his plan work.  From that moment on, you are promised success in God’s eyes.  You might not even see what that success is on this Earth, but God says that “he will do it.”

That doesn’t mean we should all quit our jobs and become full time missionaries (though for some it may mean that).  Bloom where you are planted.  Use the tools/gifts that God has given you and the place where he has you now (or the place where he has you going) to do something that would make his heart full of joy.

If that means being the best shoe salesman you can be while loving those around you, then go out there and be the best anti-Al-Bundy you can be.
