Better is a dish of vegetables where love is Than a fattened ox served with hatred.
Seems like a perfect Proverb for Thanksgiving.
Too often we allow ourselves to show our ugly side to our family because we take their unconditional love for granted. Not unlike the way we take God’s love for granted all too often. But what good is a bountiful meal with all the trimmings if you are hurting on the inside or making someone across the table hurt from something you said or did? Now, that’s a step or two away from the “hatred” mentioned in the Proverb, but I think the spirit of the message applies.
Likewise, even if you have little on your table, you can have the most joyful meal if you are with the ones you love and you are showing them how much you love them.
So don’t take for granted the people you are dining with this week. Give thanks to the Lord above for putting them in your life and you are bound to have a wonderful meal.
