Justice Eventually Comes

Proverbs 11:21

Assuredly, the evil man will not go unpunished, But the descendants of the righteous will be delivered.

For every Bernie Madoff that is caught, who knows how many go to their graves with other people’s money?  For every gang member behind bars, how many are left roaming the streets with countless crimes committed?  Yet God says that not one of them will go unpunished.

Of course the Lord has said on countless occasions that the righteous will be blessed, but he takes it a step further here.  Even the descendants of the righteous will be delivered.  Talk about upping the ante.

Of course the general point here is that God is in ultimate control and he sees the larger picture.  We see the trees, he made the forest.  We check our wrist watches while he’s printing out new calendars.

The wicked are getting all the rewards they’ll ever get with the temporal things of this earth (and I’d like to point out that this world doesn’t offer a fully satisfying solution to the hole in our hearts that can only be filled with Christ).  After that, a permanent vacation at the Lake of Fire Resort doesn’t sound very glamorous now does it?

Meanwhile, the righteous may not get many physical treasures in this lifetime, but God promises to bless them.  I think that blessing, that touch from God himself, is so powerful that it echoes in the lives of those closest to us.  That means especially our children and our children’s children.  They might not even be believers, but they know the face of God because they’ve seen it reflected in your eyes.  That alone is a blessing and a deliverance when they are going to need it most.
