Wisdom shouts in the street, She lifts her voice in the square ; At the head of the noisy streets she cries out
Wisdom is not elusive, we are.
There is no secret riddle or magic potion for gaining wisdom. The truth has always been plain to see. You gain wisdom by reading God’s word, following his commands, through prayer and petition, through counsel and study, and through good old fashioned hard work (which leads to experience).
But if it is so straightforward, why do we always feel lacking in wisdom? Most likely because we are lazy. We want a quick fix or a lottery ticket. We want to dive into temporal pleasures like sin without regard to the longer term consequences and ignoring the true benefit to a Holy lived life.
It is easier to roll over and hit the snooze button than it is to wake up early and read the bible or go for a run or spend time walking in meditative prayer. It is easier to watch TV till you fall asleep than it is to read a book by Chuck Swindoll or John Eldredge. It is easier to gossip and make fun of people as part of the crowd at work or school rather than to spend a few minutes being nice to someone that the world looks down upon. The easy road is enticing but it gains you nothing and in some cases can cost you a lot if it leads to sin.
So heed wisdom’s call and seek after her today. Ask God to show you how to skip the easy steps and take the road less traveled (but clearly marked).
