Let the heavens be glad, and let the earth rejoice ; Let the sea roar, and all it contains ; Let the field exult, and all that is in it. Then all the trees of the forest will sing for joy Before the LORD, for He is coming, For He is coming to judge the earth. He will judge the world in righteousness And the peoples in His faithfulness.
Judges are feared and respected but on this Earth they are also fallible. A person charged with a crime has to prove to them beyond a shadow of doubt that they are innocent or they face punishment.
Now imagine if that judge was all-knowing. There’s no need for trial, just a verdict. Either you and I are innocent or guilty. And in truth, we’ve all guilty of something. All men and women sin. All will be held accountable for that sin. The Lord knows all and sees all and is flawlessly fair in his judgments.
Now, in this scenario, we don’t need a defense attorney either. However, the Lord gives us something even better. He gives us his own son to stand in our place and take the punishment for us. We are tried, rightfully convicted, and then set free because another has taken our place. This is how God is both righteous and loving.
So you can see how all creation would be rejoicing and praising the Lord. This Psalm, if you read the whole thing, is about praising the Lord. He deserves every word and every prayer and every song and more.
