The voice of the LORD is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the LORD thunders over the mighty waters.
The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is majestic.
The voice of the LORD breaks the cedars; the LORD breaks in pieces the cedars of Lebanon.
The Bible sitting on a table is a pretty quiet thing. In the Christian culture, we are encouraged to spend time studying the word, which we call “quiet times.” The Lord himself tells us to “Be still and know that I am God.”
In stark contrast is the Word of God being spoken by the Lord almighty. The Bible isn’t just a book of nice stories and suggestions on how to “be good” It is the authoritative voice of God, addressing the world which He created. That is nothing to take lightly.
So the next time you pick up the Bible, imagine the Lord’s voice, echoing like thunder over mighty waters. That might add some weight to what you are reading.
