Psalm 23

Books have been written just on this short Psalm.  Countless sermons have been dedicated to it.  Movies quote it.  People who have never opened a Bible can quote  several of the phrases.

I hardly feel like I have anything to add to it, so I’ll just reprint it here in its entirety.

Read it.  Meditate on it.  Pray it.

The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,
he restores my soul. He guides me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

  1. Totally agree there’s no need to add, but I can’t help but share the part that grabs me most in this psalm. Its:

“You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.”

I get so tired of struggling with my sin. I am sooooo looking forward to the judgment of the evil one. To see him cast down and defeated once and for all. To feast with my King, acknowledging His power and celebrating that I will never, never, never have to sin again.

    I can’t wait…
