By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established; through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures.
I couldn’t help but think of the show Extreme Home Makeover, where they take the house of a family in need and totally gut it out and rebuild it into a beautiful home filled with stuff specifically tailored for each member of the family. (If little Jimmy is into guitar, they redo his room a guitar theme, etc.) When they’ve completed the task, they bring everyone out and block their view with a bus. Then there’s a dramatic unveiling where they yell “Move that bus!”
I think Christ has a similar effect on our lives when we accept him as Lord and Savior of our lives. He takes us and forgives us of our sins, in effect getting rid of the clutter in our lives. What remains is the foundation (which he established in the first place by the way) which is the essence of who we are. He doesn’t seek to completely change us. He just wants to shape us in the way He originally intended.
The Holy Spirit is the one that fills our “rooms” with knowledge and wisdom. He guides us and teaches us His ways and blesses us in ways we would never have imagined in our former state. It is still up to us to seek wisdom (why else would we be constantly reminded to seek it out in Proverbs and throughout the Bible?) but we are promised that if we seek, we shall find.
Move that bus!
